What's Cooking/Happening?

This is a title that can encompass many things.

What's cooking in the world of:

Food,
Coins,
Science,
Sports,
Special hobbies,
etc?
If anyone has a hobby they would like to write about, please contribute.

For this section, we will focus on cooking.

I am sure a favorite recipe brings back cheristed memories. Feel free to send them in and tell us about them. This way we can all share. We might even start our own cookbook for seniors. Also, if you have any anecdotes relative to cooking and would like to tell us, do not hesitate to let us know.

I am sure there are some people out there who have invited a lot of company over for dinner, and when it came time to sit down to eat, you realized you had forgotten an important part of the meal.

Take Thanksgiving dinner for example - that time you neglected to turn the oven on to cook the turkey because you were so busy preparing other things?

Did you tell everyone dinner will be late?
Did you cut up the bird and broil it?
Did you send out for a turkey dinner?
or Did you take everyone out for dinner?
Please let us know.

I would like to share one of the dishes I prepare for Thanksgiving: mashed turnips. It is a very easy dish to make. The hardest part is peeling and cutting the turnip. If you have an easy way let us know.
Peel and cut turnip into small pieces.
Put in pot and boil until soft.
Drain.
Put drained turnip back in pot.
Add milk, butter and seasoning to taste.
Mash.
Enjoy!

When it comes to stuffing, there are so many different ways to prepare it!
Most are recipes handed down through the family. This is mine. It is also very easy to prepare. It is a plain bread stuffing for people who can't eat everything.
For every 5lbs of turkey, crumble l llb loaf of bread in pan and saturate with water.
Add l/4 stick of butter.
1 egg,
Salt, pepper and poultry seasoning to taste.
Stuff bird.
Any remaining stuffing can be put in separate pan and baked until done(almost like a bread pudding).
Enjoy.
If you have any additions to this recipe or any questions, let us know.
DID YOU KNOW?
That you should cook green vegetables for less then 7 minutes in order for them to retain their bright color? This applies to most green vegetables. From: Cookwise By Shirley O. Corriher.
