The New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA) offers short-term trainings that can help get your skills up to speed for work in a variety of fields. All of DFTA's trainings run from 8 to 10 weeks, and afterwards they will help you find a job in your field.

For work in an office, the Age Works Computer Training Center will teach you how to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and prepare you for work in data entry and office assistance.

For work in the customer service field, the Food Emporium and Riese Restaurant Training Center will give you the basics in computer skills and customer service etiquette that can help you in your career in everything from banking to retail.

For work in a nonprofit or government agency, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) will place you at one of over 300 sites for on-site training.
