[edit] Overview

New York City is known for its restaurant scene and its variety of cuisines. Going out to restaurants is a great way to try new foods that you may not try otherwise. In addition to great food, many restaurants in the city offer great deals such as happy hours, pre fixe meals, and a few times a year Manhattan and Brooklyn participate in Restaurant Week.

To help you enjoy the perfect dining experience there are many websites available that provide customer reviews and comments on restaurants throughout the city. Below are a few websites to check out before you head out to a restaurant.

[edit] Restaurant Review Sites

  • Yelp: Yelp allows you to search by restaurant name, keyword, and neighborhood. You can filter your results by price, cuisine, features, and distance. From there you can read user reviews to learn about the things that are great, or not so great, about a particular restaurant. Maps are shown so you know exactly where the restaurant is and what other restaurants are in the area. Yelp also provides reviews for other businesses, such as museums, retail stores, and hotels.
  • MenuPages: In addition to providing user reviews and restaurant information, MenuPages allows you to look at restaurant menus to get a better idea of the food available as well as prices.
  • NYMagazine: Restaurants: NYMag restaurant section offers reviews of restaurants along with photos, menus, and restaurant information. Some restaurants also have user reviews but not as many as other websites. NYMag also provides articles on what's going on in the NYC restaurant world.
  • Time Out New York Restaurant Section: while user reviews aren't available, Time Out NY provides fantastic reviews for new restaurants. Search by neighborhood, cuisine, features, price range and recommended restaurants.
