[edit] Overview
The CUNY system in New York City welcomes seniors to sit in and participate in courses provided at their many schools. The level of participation and whether you receive credit or not depends on the type of school you attend:
CUNY Senior Colleges (four-year schools) allow people 60 years of age and older to audit classes, tuition free, when space is available. Seniors did not receive credit or take tests at four-year schools.
CUNY Community Colleges (two-year schools) allow seniors, 60 years and over, to fully participate in classes, tuition free, when space is available. Seniors can take tests, do homework, receive grades and credit.
Note that while seniors are exempt from paying tuition, there is an administrative fee.
