[edit] Overview

Instant Messaging (IMing) is a great way to stay in touch with friends and family, especially those people who do not live close to you. IMing is exactly what it sounds like, instant messages. IMing is a quick conversation with another individual over the internet using one of many IM services. IMs are often abbreviated and concise, unlike an email or a letter.

To learn more about IMing and to participate in an IM tutorial please visit Abby Stokes' website Abby & Me, Instant Messaging Tutorial. The site also includes a list of often abbreviated words.

IM Services are free to sign up for and only require you to download the free software.
