Friends and Relatives of Institutionalized Aged (FRIA)'s Mission is to improve the quality of long-term care in New York, with a special focus on nursing home residents, and assure that all seniors receive prompt, high quality and compassionate care. FRIA accomplishes this by helping friends and relatives become more informed and effective caregivers for the needs of their loved ones.

Free Telephone Helpline (212) 732-4455
- Helpline calls in English and Spanish
- Advice about long-term care options and financing, nursing home avaluation, selection and admission
- Training in advocacy skills and recognizing care problems
- Intervention with facilities and Department of Health
Caregiver Advocacy Program
- FRIA Empowers and assist seniors and caregivers to resolve individual problems regarding quality of care, abuse/neglect, residents rights and caregiver rights arising from long term care services
- FRIA intervenes with facilities and government, where appropriate
Family & Friends Councils
- Supoports family organizations at nursing homes
- Recruits and trains leaders
- Supplies educational materials
- Convenes leaders' coalition meetings
