Understanding the resource exchange
In order to edit a page on the Resource Exchange you must log into your SeniorPlanet account. To learn how to log into your account please visit the Account Help page.
Navigating the Resource Exchange
The Resource Exchange can be searched in different ways. If you are looking for an organization or resource in your neighborhood, you can search by borough. Clicking on your particular borough will bring you to a list of senior centers, organizations and other hidden treasures in the area.
If you know the name of the organization you are looking for, you can type the name of the organization into the search bar on the left hand side underneath the Navigation bar.
You can also browse the resource exchange by category. For example: Services. The Services category provides a listing of many services available to older adults in New York City.
Edit
The SeniorPlanet Resource Exchange allows anyone to create any kind of page and edit anyone else's page (see [[Privacy Policy]] for our policy about content creation and editing). When you navigate through pages by clicking on text links, you are in "article" mode. This allows you to see the page text but not edit it. To edit the text, click "edit" above the article. Clicking "edit" will bring you to a screen called "Editing {page name}." Here you can add text, delete text, create internal and external links, and more. Remember to click "Save Page" when you have finished editing.
Internal Links
An internal link connects users to a page within the Resource Exchange. When editing a page, you can create a link to a new page or an existing page by putting double brackets around a word or phrase as follows: [[Example]].
Using double brackets to create a link is the best way to create a new page, but it is a good general rule to do a search to make sure that link does not already exist. You can also put double brackets as often as you like around links to pages that already exist.
External Links
You can create an external link to a web site outside of SeniorPlanet by putting single brackets around a URL: [http://www.google.com]. To figure out that correct link to a web site:
1. Go to that web site in another browser window.
2. Highlight the whole URL in the address bar of the browser.
3. Click Edit in the menu bar of the browser and then click copy in the dropdown bar.
4. Switch back to the SeniorPlanet edit page, find the spot where you want to insert the text, click Edit in the menu bar of the browser, and then click paste.
5. Put a single open bracket before the URL and a single closing bracket after the URL.
If you would like to have the link appear with a different name, place a single space between the URL and the words which will become the external link: [http://www.google.com Visit the Google site].
