Non-rules to live by

A former OATS student sent me these rules to live by.  I thought I would share them with you all today.  Hope you enjoy!

For her 90th birthday, Regina Brest, a retired journalist from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, jotted these pieces of advice for us young-ones:

1. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

2. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your good friends and family will. Stay in touch.

3. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

4. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

5. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

6. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

7. Burn the candles, use nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

8. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

9. Forgive everyone, everything.

10. What other people think of you is none of your business.

11. Believe in miracles.

12. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

13. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

14. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

15. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

16. I hope you get what you want and want what your get... 17. Nothing sweeter in life than a baby that gives you a hug.

Can we add to your list?

Renee, this may be implied in your list already, but it is one that I learned several years ago and have recalled often: We each are sitting in the best seat.

Rules To Live By

This is from Senator Henry G. Davis and it is engraved on his statue in Elkins, WV the town where I grew up: "Work as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die tomorrow." Renee, these are all so good. Thank you for sharing them.
