Established by the late New School trustee Dorothy H. Hirshon to promote excellence and education in filmmaking. This year's festival honors Media Studies and Film faculty member Cynthia Wade. She recently won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject and the Special Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival for her documentary, Freeheld: The Laurel Hester Story, about the health-care industry's discrimination against gay couples.
