David J. Kahn, one of the country’s top puzzle makers, will talk about the evolution of crossword puzzles and why they still matter. Patrons will learn where themes come from and why clue-writing is so important. In short, patrons will learn about how to think outside the box while they’re writing inside the boxes. Patrons will also get a chance to solve a crossword custom-written by Mr. Kahn for the Mid-Manhattan Library, with prizes for the fastest solvers. Mr. Kahn’s puzzles appear in The New York Times, The New York Sun, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post.
