Irish in New York City

Date: Monday, March 17 , 2008

Cost: Free!

Celebrate the remarkable story of how the Irish fled the potato famine and English persecution, how on rickety sail boats they fled the emerald isle only to find hunger, unemployment, anti-Catholic persecution in America. In an example of the instinct for survival, an indomitable human spirit, and love for their church, they created a flowering of Irish culture in New York. St. Patrick's Cathedral, hundreds of parish churches, a network of orphanages, schools, colleges, and universities, to say nothing of Irish bars and St. Patrick's Day Parade, they have became a pillar of New York civilization. "Irish in New York City," with Dr. Ronald J. Brown will bring out the Irish in everyone.
